The Participation Group gives clients a say about how Money Advice Plus works and the way we shape our services. The group meet approximately every two weeks in the main Money Advice Plus offices, with meetings lasting around two hours. Meetings are informal, and take place over a cup of coffee or tea, with biscuits and fresh fruit available.
Who is the Participation Group for?
Membership of the group is open to all Money Advice Plus clients, including those whose cases are closed. We try to advertise the group widely using posters and flyers in our office waiting room and interview rooms, via Money Advisers, and through our outreach projects.
What does the Participation Group do?
People in the Participation group prioritise issues they would like to focus on. The group’s suggestions and ideas are passed on to Money Advice Plus managers by the Participation Worker, who is also responsible for organising the group meetings.
Promoting client participation is very important for Money Advice Plus, and is closely aligned with our values:
Since its formation, the Participation Group has been involved in a variety of different projects; for example the MACS Customer Care Charter. The group has also produced a Participation Policy and reviewed the MACS Client Brochure to make it more user-friendly. In April 2013 the group created a Radio Show “Money Advice and Community Support Against Loan Sharks”. The programme was broadcasted on Radio Reverb (Community Radio for Brighton and Hove).
The work of the participation group is currently supported by funding from Big Lottery through our Big Lottery Money Advice Project. The group also organises and run Money Advice Plus’ Breakfast Club.
